The Buffalo Bills' need in the defensive backfield was already obvious, but then they decided to cut starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson after getting suspended for spitting at Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers. The Bills aren't exactly deep with talent in the secondary, but it's easy to understand why they moved on from Gardner-Johnson.

This is lining up to be a very good year for the team to potentially make a run at the Super Bowl. They currently have the best record in the AFC, and the conference as a whole looks weak.

Lamar Jackson could be out for the whole season, the Kansas City Chiefs have lost back-to-back games, the Denver Broncos have the worst starting quarterback out of any contending team, the Pittsburgh Steelers are relying on a 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers and the Jacksonville Jaguars have historically been unable to get over the hump.

If there has ever been a time for the Bills to get aggressive at the trade deadline, it's this season.

ESPN names 2 DBs who would be a fit for the Bills

The Bills' offense is rolling. Sure, they'd probably like another wide receiver, but the bigger needs are on defense, especially in the secondary. They currently have the third-worst passing defense in the NFL.

They could go for a big name like Budda Baker, but there are also some smaller names who could move the needle. ESPN's Bill Barnwell pointed to two veterans who could fit in well with the Bills.

"If the Chargers are unloading, the Bills might call about cornerback Elijah Molden, who is due $3.3 million over the remainder of the season. The Colts could also be interested in moving 28-year-old Cam Bynum, a move that would save Indy nearly $6 million in cash. Buffalo doesn't have a ton of cap space, but it could restructure Greg Rousseau's contract or ask the Cardinals or Colts to retain some money by sending a better pick as part of either deal." Barnwell wrote.

As Barnwell pointed out, the Bills don't have much money to work with, so going after cheaper options like Molden or Bynum could make sense. Molden would help the cornerback need, while Bynum would help replace Gardner-Johnson.

Neither player is likely to move the needle in a serious way, but if the Bills are looking to keep most of their draft capital, these are a couple of veterans who could help.
