It’s no secret that the New England Patriots’ offense has been underwhelming at best to start of the 2026 season. Granted, it doesn’t help that they lost A.J. Brown in Week 1 as he was placed on the IR from an ankle injury. They also have lost offensive linemen for protection for Drake Maye.
However, being the team that was just in the Super Bowl back in February, they sure aren't playing like a team that won the AFC last season. Since they won the AFC East last season, they got their first-place schedule and are off to a rough start.
Patriots look lost through first 3 games
The biggest headline for the Patriots' offense and how bad they look. They are averaging just 12 points per game the last three weeks, and they only have 3 touchdowns on the year. For a team that was just in the Super Bowl 8 months ago, that's pretty sad.
We could always go into how Drake Maye has 1 touchdown to 6 interceptions, while also having a fumble as well. However, that's not the stat that Bills fans should be focusing on going into Sunday.
Bills' defense has major pressure to deliver facing 1 Patriots stat
Not only are the Patriots' offense struggling heavily, but them making plays in the redzone is a big time problem for them. According to the Buffalo Bills' PR team, the redzone offense is listed at just 16.7% compared to Buffalo's 75%. That is a massive gap and it says a lot about how bad New England has been despite them being in a situation where they can score.
Not only are they bad in the redzone, but the Patriots’ offense has only converted 13 out of 40 3rd-down situations (with a 32.5% conversion rate).. To compare it to Buffalo’s offense, they are converting on 3rd-downs 54.5% of the time (18/33).
We saw Buffalo’s defense step up in a big way against the Chargers when the offense was doing everything wrong at one point. With the Bills turning the ball over five times, their defense only allowed the Chargers to score ten points off of those turnovers. After years of being the inconsistent unit, it was refreshing to see them be the ones that ultimately helped Buffalo win a game.
Since this is a divisional game, you can’t rule out any possibility of what could happen. Either way the Patriots come into this game where they can’t score big, and their efficiency is underwhelming at best.
Buffalo will now have to continue on that streak and hope that the Patriots don’t find their spark in front of Bills Mafia. If that does indeed become the case, the Bills’ defense is going to face a lot of local and national criticism. No pressure, right?
