Buffalo Bills Pittsburgh Steelers: Injury update

More from Buffalo Bills News

The amount of injuries the Buffalo Bills have suffered recently is almost comical. Almost. To be fair, it helps justify the sense of impending doom that often seems to hang over the average Buffalo sports fan’s head.

Of course, the main thing to concentrate on, is how many of the walking wounded will be ready for the home opener against the Indianapolis Colts. As the Bills prepare to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, here’s an update on some of the current injury concerns, which seem to be related to two specific areas on the team.

Running backs:

LeSean McCoy – The Bills are currently stating they are cautiously optimistic McCoy will be ready for the start of the regular season. However, until the fans actually see him on the field against the Colts, fears will remain that he won’t be fit.

Bryce Brown – Since rushing for a game-high 52 yards in the Bills first preseason game, the fourth year runner has been compromised by a hamstring issue (although he did return to practice on Thursday). Ultimately, it may not matter, with ESPN‘s Mike Rodak recently indicating Brown will be either traded or released.

Anthony Dixon was another player who returned to practice on Thursday, but his calf injury will keep him out of the game against the Steelers. Karlos Williams was spotted at team facilities on Thursday, but his apparent appendicitis will probably mean he is not ready for the start of the regular season.

Receivers:

Chris Hogan – The 26-year old will not play in the final two preseason games, due to his knee and ankle injuries. However, similar to McCoy, the team are cautiously optimistic Hogan will be ready for the home opener, as long as he suffers no setbacks.

The Bills will be light as a whole at the wide receiver position, playing without their top four pass catchers against the Steelers. However, Rex Ryan has said that Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Percy Harvin will all definitely be ready to play the Colts on opening day.

Charles Clay – The Bills number one tight end left practice on Tuesday, with a slight knee injury. Understandably, this is concerning for a player who dealt with similar issues throughout last season, but Clay insists he will be fine.

The only other significant injury concerns cornerback Leodis McKelvin, who will not be ready for the start of the season. The chances are that he will miss the first six games of the season, which is a big blow to the Bills.
