Buffalo Bills Cleveland Browns Game Preview

Week 2 of the preseason sees the Buffalo Bills face off against the Cleveland Browns and their old defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.  Johnny Manziel, the fan favorite across the country, will also be on the field for part of the game.

At the start of training camp, I couldn’t wait to see this team play.  Even with a few players missing due to injury, there is still a couple of battles to watch out that will make this game interesting and exciting.

The biggest player to keep your eye on is going to be Tyrod Taylor.  The quarterback is getting the start tonight and will be leading the first squad, with an undrafted rookie at running back and without a full-fledged wide receiver corps.  Surprisingly, he does have the full offensive line at his disposal – kind of a reversal of happenings from previous years.

Is it Tyrod’s spot to lose? At this point no.  He did show well in last weeks game, and is starting this week, but that is the natural progression of the quarterback competition.  If he does have a great showing this week, then look for him to be named the starter for the week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

With Matt Cassel pretty much situated as the veteran leader of the quarterback corps, which he should be, we should see most of the work go to EJ Manuel after Tyrod.  Manuel is not scheduled to see action until the third team is on the field, but is projected to see close to half of the game in playing time.

With the five entrance backs coming into camp injured, the Buffalo Bills will turn to undrafted rookies Bronson Hill and Rickey Seale to pace the game from out of the back field.

"“Cramming. You know like, college or high school how you cram for an exam that you didn’t study for, it’s pretty much what I’ve been doing for just the playbook,” said Hill. “So it’s pretty much just practice and trying to learn the playbook.”“It’s quite the dream come true,” said Hill. “Two weeks ago I was just sitting on the couch waiting for a call and now I can possibly start an NFL game. It’s what I asked for so now it’s up to me to do something with it.”– BuffaloBills.com"

Quentin Groves was also added to the team to fill an open spot in the linebacker corps, after Ty Powell was lost for the season with a torn ACL.

It has not been an easy first half of training camp for the Buffalo Bills, with so many big name players out with injuries, including an entire running back corps as well.  However, it is only preseason and there is time for most of these players to be back on the field by the time the season starts in September.
