The Buffalo Bills Are On The Clock…To Trade

The Buffalo Bills are set and ready for the draft, as we move into day 2 of the draft.  The Buffalo Bills did not have a first round pick as they traded away their first round pick this year to accommodate the drafting of Sammy Watkins last year, which they had to move up 5 spots for.

Their first pick will start later tonight with the 50th overall pick.  They will also have the 81st overall pick, and barring any trades that may come their way, that is the only picks that they will have.  The Buffalo Bills are also sitting with 4 draft picks in the later rounds that are set to take off on Saturday.  They have a 5th round, 2 6th rounds and a 7th round.

What viable options are there for the later rounds for the Buffalo Bills?  It has been mentioned that Doug Whaley would be looking to trade away some of the later picks for next year, and to build some stock for the 2016 draft.

It has not really been mentioned to use the remaining four picks in rounds 5-7 to trade up.  Could it be a possibility? Value-wise, absolutely.  The picks that they Bills have are actually water down in value.  I say this because of the compensatory picks that are added into the draft affect the places of those that are after those compensatory add-ons.

With what the Buffalo Bills have, they have a total value of picks that equate to 59.4 based on the value chart for the draft.  This is only 3 picks as their 7th round pick is not even worth a value, because of the compensatory picks.

With the 5th and 2 6ths figured out if the 7th is included in a trade and it is strictly draft picks that the Buffalo Bills would be dealing, and only the ones in this draft, they could move up into the mid-4th round.  The Kansas City Chiefs right now hold the 19th pick in the 4th round with a draft value of 58.  The Bills sitting with 59.4 and a 7th not figured into that value might even be able to move up a couple more spots and be sitting with the 17th overall pick in the 4th round and draft in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds and be done with the draft.

With Buffalo looking at offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, defensive back, and quarterback, they could very well find players that will start for them in a year or two, if not this year, in the 2-4th rounds.  The 4th round could also provide them with a better option at one of those positions than waiting until the 5-7th rounds.
