The trade deadline has come and gone and nothing happened at One Bills Drive.  Surprising, not really.  The Buffalo Bills do have some weaknesses, but based on those weaknesses, would they be able to upgrade based on who would be available to trade.  I think that if C.J. Spiller was available, there may have been some trade rumors flying round the Bills running back.

Even though the Bills didn’t make a trade today, they can still make a move as they head into the week 9 bye week.  The weaknesses that I spoke of a paragraph ago stem mainly from their offensive line and the lack of guards that they have and the quality of those guards.

Buffalo could easily shore up a 1 year deal with a veteran guard that would be able to step in immediately and upgrade this offensive line tenfold.

Some of the possibilities at guard that are still available right now are Travelle Wharton, Brian Waters, Ritchie Incognito, Harvey Dahl and Carl Nicks.  I think that any one of these guys could easily step in and make an impact for the Bills.  Out of all of these guys, the only one that might concern me is Incognito and his attitude and locker room presence.  The Bills need a guard, not issues in the locker room or off the field, they also don’t need a outspoken leader either.  They have leaders both on the offensive line as well as on the rest of the team.  They need someone that can come in, sit down, learn the plays and block somebody, maybe even drive someone more than a yard down the field as well.

The Bills need to make a move at the guard position because Kraig Urbik, Erik Pears, and Cyril Richardson are not cutting it right now.  If the Bills stay the course, I hate to say it but if they do make the playoffs, they won’t make it very far with a meager interior offensive line.
