As the draft comes to less than 24 hours away, the phones lines are beginning to heat up and trades talks begin to soar.  For the Buffalo Bills, it has been mentioned a couple of times that they may trade up to the number 1 spot or might be interested in it.  Those rumors have had little backing, until now.

It is being reported by PFTs Mike Florio that

"The Bills, we’re told, have been burning up the phone lines in an effort to work out a deal that would vault them from No. 9 to No. 1 or No. 2.  The targets are believed to be defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and tackle Greg Robinson."

If Doug Whaley is truly trying to make a name for himself, with the impending sale of team which leaves all jobs up for grabs, this would be a good place to start.

I have said in the past that if the Bills are looking to trade it would only be to grab Jadeveon Clowney.  If Clowney is sought after it is for one reason and one reason only, to play opposite of Mario Williams.  This may be more of an option now with Dareus in legal trouble and a possible suspension in the near future.  As Schwartz in the DC control seat, this would give his defense a lot of flexibility as to what he wants to do and where everyone would play.  Jerry Hughes is also still there as well, but you might have to figure that Hughes might be part of the trade.

Greg Robinson would bring an immediate upgrade to the offensive line and would begin to help put points on the board, especially in the passing game.  Protecting Manuel is a point of concern and this could address that point.  We looked at the draft value chart a couple of days ago and if a trade is made to either the 1st or the 2nd pick, we would be looking at a combination of players and picks to get the value that is needed.

Would Stevie Johnson make it happen with a 1st and maybe a 3rd.  Its possible.  With Mike Williams coming in and being very similar to Johnson, are you really losing a lot from a year ago?  I personally don’t think so.  I think that if you can get Clowney or Robinson for a 1st, 3rd and Johnson you might be making out.  Address the TE situation in the 2nd and make it happen.  Clowney, with Williams, Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus? and Hughes? (question marks are there because their futures are undetermined with felony charges for Dareus and trade possibilities for Hughes). Even with the question marks it still isn’t too bad and Johnson may be part of the trade and not Hughes.  Either way Buffalo makes out and brings in someone that will instantly help this team.

I don’t think that losing Hughes or Johnson will make a whole lot of difference especially with what they have done in free agency to this point. Pull the trigger!
