This Team Needs A Quarterback

After watching that monstrosity of a game by this Bills team I can only imagine what we will see next week. I thought possibly we may have had our future quarterback on this roster but no more. EJ Manuel is atrocious and I don’t think it’s going to get any better.

Playing in 9 games thus far this season I think I have already seen enough. Was there a reason again why we selected him in the 1st round? Injuries, terrible footwork, not playing to win and just an overall lack of skill to play in this league is what the fans are going to be dealing with if something isn’t changed. Coaching may be apart of this and I’m pretty sure it is but this is a quarterback driven league and the guy that’s in the spot is not the answer.

Was it necessary for this team to draft this guy last year? We have been without a quarterback for years and knowing this upcoming draft would be a better year for a shot at a franchise guy Manuel’s pick to me is now a waste. Watching draft coverage and reading around the league I really never heard much about Manuel until the draft was upon us. No other team obviously wanted a QB higher than the Bills or anytime in the 1st round for that matter. Don’t you think if a guy was that good someone would’ve made a move or selected one? This pick too is solely on the shoulders of the Bills brass. Not being able to say their guy wasn’t on the board and settling for someone else is out of the question.

His stats looking back at the 9 games I guess aren’t terrible but nothing jumps out at you. His QB rating is 75.4 and has 9 td passes but after that is all downhill. 8 interceptions, 4 fumbles, sacked 24 times and an average of 6.3 per attempt is a joke. We’ll have to see if he can do anything to help these in the last 3 games but I’m not betting on it.

I’m probably not giving this guy enough time but I don’t care. I’ve seen enough and watching this kid I don’t see it getting any better anytime soon. People will say look at the Panthers game but one drive in a game doesn’t do anything for me. Not saying he’s better but watching Thad Lewis play at least the games were exciting. Does anyone agree with me or do people really think he’ll turn it around?

Thad throws a much better deep ball and has instincts EJ lacks. He also is purely a more accurate passer. I watched him at DUKE while I was in college down there and I am not surprised at all that he is playing well int he league. He was always the best player on the field in college games.

Lol you people act like franchise qbs grow on trees. If it was that simple to draft one I guess we would have had one since 12 left. Crappy ol play 63 yards on the ground no #1 receiver no decent te and an offensive coordinator who is learning on the fly contributes more to the problem than anyone seems to want to admit. Unless EJ gets hurt you will be seeing a lot of him for the next 3 years or so they would make themselves look like fools otherwise. Let’s focus on some of these other issues instead of focusing on the easy target every week

  • James Donovan

I couldn’t agree with this article more EJ is absolutely horrible and what’s worse is every week he gets worse and worse it is not that hard to see anyone else is a better option then him I wish for just once the coaching staff would swallow their pride and bench him the last 3 games might actually be exciting with Thad because he can actually throw the ball accuretly EJ is the least accurate qb in all of the NFL

How come so many teams have been drafting them lately and not even in the first round? Dont you see how slow or behind this franchise is sometimes. Highest selection taking a qb in draft and its right in the middle of two potentially great qb classes.

  • John

Just seems to me he plays scared all the time. Its been said he has the smarts but haven’t seen any of that. Foot work still bad, doesn’t get out of bounds and has put the ball in areas to get his receivers hammered.

  • DaMario Holmes

How many good qbs are there really? Realistically if you get two or three long term starting qbs power draft that would be a lot. I’ve heard people calling for the heads of the same young qbs that they praised just last year? Bradford, Locker, Tannehill, Pryor, Weeden, Freeman and other’s were sold as the next great thing and they are on their way out. I’ll give you Luck but who are the other consistently good young qbs?

  • John

Luck, Wilson, Tannehill, Kaepernick, Dalton, RG3, Newton, Foles.

  • DaMario Holmes

Lol at anyone else would be better. How soon we forget. He’s not great but at least he has potential. He’s about 50/50 to be serviceable or suck even if he becomes Alex Smith he can win if other things are in place.

  • james

I’m sorry but you people are idiots… Name 1 year outside of last where qbs miraculously came and played flawlessly… It took 3 years for newton so calm down…

  • DaMario Holmes

Two weeks ago Rg3 and Kaep were “regressing”according to fans. Wilson is the man I’ll give you that but they claim this year was make our break for Dalton. I know it sounds crazy but look it up. People want Brady, Peyton, our Brees and chances are it will never happen especially with the patience of today’s fan

  • John

Yea anyone would want them but those other guys at least are producing.

  • DaMario Holmes

Sucks trying to do this on my phone sorry about the screw ups but I hope you get my point

  • DaMario Holmes

I’ll be honest his accuracy is scary bad sometimes but he also throws 30 yard frozen ropes sometimes they say it’s footwork which is able to be corrected. I have to believe that these guys did their homework. Actually I have no choice

  • John

Ryan, flacco and stafford come to mind

  • John

He does do some good stuff but the bad just hides that. We should’ve seen the foot work starting to get better by now.

  • DaMario Holmes

The EJ experiment will run its course like it or not. May as well hope for the best. Who was the last first round franchise qb who was benched and replaced after 10 games with no major injury? Even Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf got two or three seasons didn’t they?

  • james

Flacco was under criticism until he won last year. Stafford still hasn’t taken his team and look where Ryan is now without his god in Julio Jones … 1 ring in all 3 yet Eli manning had a 55 qbr in his rookie season and he has more rings than the list you just gave

  • james

Did you know Staffords rookie qbr is … A 61 … So if Manuel struggles next year I would understand but we have to give the kid a chance… And if you think that calling for his head is helping, then your mistaken.

  • John

Yea all these guys have skill. What has Manuel shown that anyone could get excited about? Again foot work, check downs, balls thrown out of bounds many times, injuries, just has to have people wondering whats next?

  • james

Progress is whats next… Out of bounce is fear of getting intercepted (rookie mistake), checkdowns is the same problem, footwork is Manuels problems but should improve after an off-season fixing it. And injuries is the same issue as RG3 (Rookie) and other rookies until they learn in time how to be better passers.

  • james

Footwork is E.Js issue but an off-season with the coaching staff should improve it, both checkdowns and throwing out of bounce is rookie mistakes because they are afraid of costing there team the game… And even rg3 and kaepernick have had issues with taking to many hits so give E.J. a freaking chance.

  • John

That may very well be the case but what if its not? Knowing some of factors its hard to warrant a 1st round selection. Footwork, touch and football smarts are the major things needed in a nfl qb. He may have them but at the wrong level. We’ll see

  • james

But whether or not he develops into a franchise qb or not we need to back him up as his fans until it is clear that he cant be a successful qb which is 2 or 3 years

  • tullymars35

Ya’all jump on things to quickly! Last year it was “Fitz is awful! If we don’t draft a QB it’s over.” Now that the draft pick has played a whole 9 games, and hasn’t been the answer to your prayers, it’s “Manuel sucks! He has to go! Should have kept Fitz another year!” Ugh!!! Next all ya’all will be calling for a coaching change…. I mean hell, everybody knows that it only takes 1 season to turn around a losing franchise

Unfortunately, I must agree with you…I’m not impressed. Manual doesn’t play to win…he plays not to lose. That won’t cut it in the NFL. The only question I have is how much are the coaches to blame. They seem to be babying him. Supposedly he has a great arm, but we never see it. Let him go and take his knocks and learn from it. Look at Gino Smith. He’s had some horrible games, but the Jets let him use his skills and he’s learning the hard way…the only way!
