Would you ever trade CJ Spiller?

Let’s face it the quarterback in the NFL is the most important position on the field. The Bills have not had a quality player there in some time. So I was thinking that if we don’t draft high enough, there could be other means of obtaining a pick or acquiring a player.

The first thing that comes to mind is Buffalo’s best all-around player CJ Spiller. When he was drafted there were many questions as to why he was because of where he plays on the field. The fans were told he was the best player on the board and that’s why he was taken. With the Bills having two other running backs capable of carrying the load there wasn’t room for Spiller. That being said the Bills moved on with Spiller and since that draft the running backs carrying the load have moved on to different teams.

Nobody really got to see what Spiller could do until last season when Fred Jackson went down with an injury. Different reports came out that had people saying he was small and had a hard time picking up blocks. Others said he wasn’t going to be a back that could carry it 25-30 times a game. Like I said previously last season he got his chance and showed he could be that back. His vision, cut back runs and speed are just some of the great qualities he possesses.

This season he got even more of a chance to prove himself and boy did he. His explosiveness showed greatly as he had phenomenal runs along with catches from Fitz. One thing that did hold him back was the coach. Basically never getting more than 20 carries, and always sharing time with Jackson when he has healthy. Just to think what could have been if the coach went with the hot hand most of the season? As we wait for next season to come with a new head coach fans will be anxious to see how he is used.

Back to question of ever trading Spiller would you? I think I would if it would guarantee me a franchise quarterback. Running backs are a dime a dozen but not many come out like Spiller. I’m not saying this because I want to see him gone but rather wondering if anyone feels like me in the way that this team needs a quarterback and should be willing to do anything in order to get it.

Nope. Wouldn’t trade either CJ or Fred – they’re both premier players (especially in the right offense). Why would you send the message to the rest of the NFL that you’d trade players like this … ones you’ve developed and made strides with? Why would other players come to Buffalo, after seeing something like that happen? Why would college players want to be drafted by a team like that? The Bills already have a bit of an issue, getting front-line players to consider coming to play in Buffalo. Doing ANYTHING at this point to make that more difficult means that when the Bills get to the cusp of the elite teams in the league, and need that ONE player to put them over the top …. it’ll be difficult to get that player. Smart teams don’t do that.

I’m not saying that I want him gone but rather that option to make any move to get our player. EX if your a free agent and we have Fitz as our guy what do you think? Then what about Brady or Luck? Thats going to bring in the players. We just need to win, that will help too.

I want a franchise qb in buffalo more than anyone else! But c.j spiller is 1 guy/thing I would not give up! Like you said the coach held him back ..spiller lead all backs in yards per cards! He also is the 2nd faster Player to get to 1000yards rushing ever… Think about spiller getting the carries Adrian Peterson got does he hold the single season rushing record?

Spiller is amazing on screen passes and draw plays.. He needs 20-25 rushes n another 10 catches and watch this guy rack up the yards . I really want to c.j be the bills premier back for next several years he can b one of the best in the nfl and the best rb in buffalo bills history (he broke o.j Simpsons
