NFL Gambling Tips (From Someone Who Doesn’t Gamble) – Week 1

Let’s be real: a lot of people love football because it’s the easiest and funnest sport to gamble on. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Personally, I’m too broke to gamble (being a first-year public school teacher isn’t too lucrative), but I sure do watch a lot of football. I figure I should help* my loyal readers out with some gambling advice. Each week I’ll pick four games plus a fifth “Lock of the Week.”

Hey, guess who’s off to a good start with this whole gambling column thing! 3-1-1 in my first week! Stupid Browns playing like garbage cost me, but that’s not bad. Let’s see how I do in Week 2.

BILLS (-3.5) over Raiders

I’m riding the Bills until they lose because I’m a total homer. Also, I really like the Bills this week. Oakland is in a tough spot playing in the 1 p.m. game on the East Coast after playing on Monday night. That extra half-point on this line makes me nervous, but I think the Bills win this one by a touchdown or more anyway.

Texans (-3) over DOLPHINS

I just don’t think the Dolphins are any good. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong, but I think not firing Tony Sparano will end up being a huge mistake that costs Miami a season. The Texans will find eventually find a way to rip their fans’ hearts out, but it won’t be this week

Eagles  (-3) over FALCONS

I’m not sure if that Week 1 beating the Falcons took was really a mirage or not. Is this team actually going to be any good? This game could end up being Michael Vick putting on a show in his old stomping grounds, the Eagles winning in a laugher, and the Falcons hitting the panic button on this season.

LIONS (-8.5) over Chiefs

This line seems awful high, but did you see the Chiefs last week? I think they take another beating here.

REDSKINS  (-4) over Cardinals

I have no idea why this line isn’t higher. The Cardinals have an atrocious secondary and never win when they come to the East Coast…especially for a 1 p.m. game. Washington rolls Arizona this week.
