Steve Tasker (1986 – 1997)

Steve Tasker is deservedly Bills fan’s number one fan favorite and he tops my list as well.  Tasker was one of my favorite players when I was a young kid watching the Bills compete and dominate week in and week out.

He was originally drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 1985 NFL Draft.  The Oilers selected him in the ninth round, with the 226th overall pick.  He was later traded to the Bills two games into the 1986 season.

Tasker was a menace on special teams throughout his career and is without question the greatest special teamer in NFL history.  There were some good ones but none as good as Tasker, period.  He had seven blocked punts in his career and 204 special team tackles.  He was the first special teamer to be voted to seven Pro Bowls and was an MVP of the Pro Bowl in 1993.

Tasker was inducted into the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame in 2007.  He was also chosen by the NFL Hall of Fame’s All-Time team in 2000 and inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.  Despite not having been elected to the NFL Hall of Fame yet, he’s been named several times as a finalist.
