3 NFL franchises in disarray we can be thankful that aren't the Bills
By Brandon Ray
It’s officially Thanksgiving Day and on this thankful day, it’s important to be thankful that the Buffalo Bills are the team who they currently are. They have stability in the coaching staff, a star quarterback in Josh Allen, and arguably the most passionate fanbase in the league. Not every team is blessed to have a setup that the Bills have.
While Buffalo still has humps to get over in the postseason, they are nowhere near dysfunction or bad luck that other teams have to endure. Through the massive 17-year playoff drought, the Bills had a revolving door of players whose talents were wasted. Since Sean McDermott arrived to town in 2017, the narrative has changed for the Bills and no one thinks that Buffalo isn’t one of the top teams in the league.
This season is the perfect example because of the offseason that the Bills had. They went through a major revamp of the roster and lost a lot of key veterans who helped build the culture in Buffalo. Instead of taking a step back, they are now in a position to potentially win the AFC East for the fifth consecutive season.
On this day where it is all about being thankful, Bills fans should be thankful how the team has changed in the last seven years. More importantly, they should be thankful that they aren’t three specific franchises who are currently struggling or have been hit with serious bad luck for the longest time.
New York Jets
It wouldn’t be a disarray list without having the Jets on here. Year in and year out, the Jets somehow find a way to screw things up within their organization. After going “all in” the last two season after acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Packers, the Jets have been affected by injuries and horrific play that has led to the firing of Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas.
The Jets are the biggest disappointment this year because of the expectations that were put on them and instead of competing for a playoff spot, there is a lot of questions regarding their future because if Rodgers is not coming back to the Jets in 2025, they have no answer at the most important position in the sport.
Chicago Bears
Despite the Bears trying their hardest to build around rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, this season has taken a turn for the worst and every single season, they have ruined a quarterback somehow, someway. The Bears are an organization that has a lot of talent on their roster, but the choices they make when it comes to the coaching staff sets them back.
Having a generational quarterback like Williams is a good first start, but maybe it’s only a matter of time until his promise gets tarnished. The Bills were a lot like the Bears at one point. A great defensive team but they were limited on offense and it seemed like the coaching staff was a common theme when it came to the ultimate issue within the team.
The Bills and Bears are at separate points in their organizations, but there is a little bit of hope for Chicago if they make some necessary changes this coming offseason.
Miami Dolphins
That’s right, we put the Dolphins on this list. Not because they are a mess of an organization, but the Dolphins have only beaten the Bills twice since 2018. How the Bills were treated by the New England Patriots for nearly two decades when Tom Brady was with them, is how the Dolphins are being treated by the Bills with Josh Allen.
No matter how much speed the Dolphins acquire and no matter how accurate Tua Tagovailoa is in the pocket, the Dolphins get exposed every year later on in the season because the weather is no longer in their favor.
Not to mention, the Dolphins giving Tua a massive four-year, $212.4 million deal prior to this season will come back to haunt them because they won’t be able to afford key players down the road. It would be different if Tua was a difference maker in the playoffs, but he hasn’t proved it.
