3 2022 Buffalo Bills free agent signings who didn’t work out as hoped

The final free agent signing didn’t even get a chance to play a regular season snap for the Buffalo Bills this past season. The Bills signed former first round pick O.J. Howard as a free agent and the expectation was that he could be that second option to Dawson Knox which gave offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey more flexibility with his formations and would allow the Bills to run more two-tight end sets.
After a promising start to his career, with nearly 1,000 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns in his first two years, Howard has struggled to make the same type of impact. However, the hope was that in this offense he could have an expanded role and more opportunity than he has had recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That didn’t go to plan and Howard was soon passed on the depth chart by players like former undrafted free agent Quintin Morris and the Bills elected to release him during their final round of cuts right before the start of the season. Howard would end up with the Houston Texans and had two touchdowns in his first game with them but didn’t make much of an impact after.
