Buffalo Bills top 2023 offseason positions of need: Wide Receiver

It’s time to invest in young, reliable route runners for Josh Allen.

The Bills passing attack accounted for 4,291 total yards of offence, led by Stefon Diggs’ continued dominance. In 16 games, Diggs produced 1,429 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, while Gabriel Davis followed for a mild 836 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns in 15 games.

Outside of these two elite receivers, and the exception of tight end Dawson Knox, the Bills wide receiver room was alarmingly inconsistent. With that, unfortunately, Stefon Diggs is not getting any younger.  At age 29, the window for Diggs’ prime is slowly closing. There will come a day when Allen loses his number one weapon, and when the time comes, those are big shoes to fill. Investing early round draft capital on playmakers for Josh Allen should be of high importance over the next few seasons.

Adding young, elite wide receivers should be a top priority for the Bills in the 2023 draft. Rookie receivers learning from elite, veteran pass catchers like Stefon Diggs will enhance development within a sustained passing attack for years to come.  Ensuring Josh Allen is able to spread the ball out in an improved passing attack will take significant pressure off Diggs and Davis. Having “too many” young receivers to choose from is a dilemma we want to confront in 2023.
