Through the first three games, the Buffalo Bills’ defense has been one of the best against the run as they are only allowing 57.7 yards per game. This is the second lowest total in the league, behind only the Jacksonville Jaguars who allow only an average of 55.0 yards per game.

One of the reasons for the improvement has been the addition of DaQuan Jones, who is the only defensive tackle on the roster who has played in all three games to this point in the season.

The stat total doesn’t jump out as he has only seven total tackles to begin the year but he is in the middle of this defense taking up space and making life easier for the players around him. He has done a good job anchoring the middle of the field and keeping blockers engaged which frees up room for other players to get to the ball carrier and make plays.

While setting the edge against Lamar Jackson is important, the Bills also need a player staying at home in the middle of the field to make sure the Ravens’ quarterback just doesn’t run upfield when the pocket collapses.

If Jones can continue to solidify the middle of this line, the Buffalo Bills have a good chance of minimizing Lamar Jackson’s impact running the ball.
