Safety

For the first time since the 2016 season, the Buffalo Bills didn’t have either Micah Hyde or Jordan Poyer on the field at safety. Micah Hyde unfortunately is lost for the entire season due to a neck injury and Poyer was out this week due to a foot injury.

The Bills turned to Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin, who combined had only one career start, to try and fill big shoes left by the absence of Hyde and Poyer.

Similar to the cornerbacks, the performance was rather impressive considering their lack of experience. The biggest mistake was that reception by Waddle where he seemed to split the safeties on a 3rd and 22. That play kept the Dolphins drive alive that would end with the game-winning touchdown.

The Buffalo Bills have to hope that Jordan Poyer is back next week but the coaching staff should feel good about either Johnson or Hamlin starting next to Poyer for the remainder of the year.
