The Buffalo Bills had their first practice of the week on Sunday in preparation for their game against the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Sean McDermott met with reporters prior to practice and had some good news on the status of their star safety.

McDermott said he would be ‘surprised’ if Poyer was not available to play Thursday against the Rams. The former All-Pro safety has been dealing with an elbow injury suffered during training camp at the beginning of August.

Poyer was not able to participate in any preseason games and last week was finally able to return to practice but was wearing a non-contact jersey. On Sunday, he was out of the red no-contact jersey but still had that elbow brace on his left arm as seen in the video tweeted by Jon Scott with Spectrum News.

Jordan Poyer’s return will be a big boost for the Buffalo Bills’ secondary

If Jordan Poyer does return on Thursday night, it will be a big boost for a secondary that might not be as experienced as the team would like. The Bills are going to be without Tre’Davious White and if the depth chart released over the weekend is accurate then the Bills will be starting Dane Jackson and rookie Kaiir Elam at cornerback.

The Bills’ cornerbacks are going to be challenged early and often by Matthew Stafford and the Rams’ wide receivers so having both Poyer and Micah Hyde backing them up should help this group in a big game to kick off the 2022 season.

The Buffalo Bills have one of the best safety duos in the NFL as Hyde and Poyer will be entering their fifth season together as the starters at that position in Sean McDermott’s defense. That experience will be invaluable in this game on Thursday night for the Buffalo Bills.
