3 Buffalo Bills that could still be cut after making 53-man roster

Tommy Sweeney

The final player is tight end Tommy Sweeney as the Bills surprisingly kept three tight ends and even more surprising was the fact that O.J. Howard was not one of them. The team elected to go with Tommy Sweeney and Quintin Morris as backups to Dawson Knox.

When looking at the position, it might seem that Quintin Morris would be the player in jeopardy of losing his spot if the Buffalo Bills need to create a roster spot. However, I believe it might actually be Tommy Sweeney.

One reason is that Morris actually looked better than Sweeney during the preseason and made some impressive catches down the field, like in the first game against the Indianapolis Colts with a 29-yard reception.

However, the other reason is that Morris is under contract for two more years, and after those two years would be an exclusive rights free agent, while Sweeney is entering the final year of his contract.

In the coming years, finding these bargains are going to be pivotal for a team that tries to navigate the salary cap with a massive quarterback contract like the one Josh Allen has.

If the Buffalo Bills elect to go into the season with only two tight ends, then Tommy Sweeney may be the player who is released instead of someone like Quintin Morris.
