Christian Benford

Among the players on this list, Christian Benford probably made up the most ground over the three-week training camp. He was a sixth round pick by the Buffalo Bills during the 2022 NFL Draft and wasn’t guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster and was considered more as a practice squad candidate.

However, by the end of training camp he was getting reps with the starters and now is seemingly in the same conversation as Dane Jackson and Kaiir Elam.

Benford played his college football at Villanova, which is part of Division I-AA, and the thought was he might need time to develop and the learning curve may be steep. However, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier didn’t believe that and has been impressed with what Benford has done to this point.

The cornerback position has plenty of uncertainty entering the preseason and what this group may look like when the Buffalo Bills take the field against the Los Angeles Rams. The biggest question still is around Tre’Davious White and whether he is able to play in that game.

If he is not able to return, who among Jackson, Bernard, and Elam get the start, or do the Bills try to work in a rotation during that game? Hopefully, the coaching staff is able to answer that second question by the end of the preseason.
