Zack Moss was billed to be the perfect complementary back to Devin Singletary when he was drafted in the third round two seasons ago. With a promising rookie season where Moss had over 500 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns, many expected more substantial contributions in Moss’ second season. However, we saw the opposite: Moss’ yards per carry cratered almost an entire yard from 4.3 in 2020 to 3.6 in 2021.

After Week 13, Zack Moss was often inactive. If not for a blowout in the Wild Card round against the Patriots, Moss would have gone the entire playoffs without registering a snap while his counterpart in the backfield, Devin Singletary, was registering 100% of the snaps at running back.

Moss will have even more competition this season as the Bills drafted James Cook in the second round of this year’s draft. Cook offers a different skillset from Moss, giving him the upper hand on what back will receive snaps alongside Singletary this season.

Moss has a hard path to playing time, and it honestly could spell the end of his Bills career just two seasons in. Brandon Beane has not been afraid to let go of players if they are not a part of the best 53 players the Bills have.
