Buffalo Bills reportedly agree to terms with J.D. McKissic
The Buffalo Bills have been during the legal tampering period with a number of reported deals. The latest is with running back J.D. McKissic, who agreed to a two-year deal worth $7 million that could go up to $8 million according to NFL Network’ Mike Garafolo.
McKissic spent his first three years in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks before one season with the Detroit Lions. The past two seasons he was a member of the Washington Commanders and at every stop, he has proven to be an excellent receiver and a playmaker for that offense.
Over his six years in the NFL, he has appeared in double digit games four times and each of those seasons has had at least 34 receptions, 42 targets, and 233 receiving yards. His best season was by far in 2020 when he had 80 receptions, 589 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns.
J.D. McKissic makes the offense better for the Buffalo Bills but not necessarily the run game
J.D. McKissic is a unique player in that he is not the typical running back and offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will need to build a gameplan that specifically works in the veteran running back. He is not a traditional running back as he has had limited opportunities with only 133 rushing attempts the past two years.
However, he has been effective with those carries as he averaged 4.3 rushing yards per attempt. This is an added bonus but the Buffalo Bills likely added McKissic for his pass-catching ability.
The team tried to add that wrinkle to their offense with the signing of Matt Breida but it didn’t work partly due to him not getting many opportunities on the field. It will be interesting to see how that changes with the reported addition of J.D. McKissic.
