Field goals are not going to be enough to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead

Sean McDermott consistently decided to kick in the red area when these teams played in January. The summary of that game is extremely revealing of McDermott’s conservativeness. The Bills kicked fields goals of 51, 20, 27, and 51 yards, all of which being in Chiefs territory.

And Kansas City was more than willing to trade trade field goals for touchdowns to compound their lead. In just the second quarter, Kansas City reeled off 21 points, while Buffalo could only muster one touchdown, two field goals and a missed extra point.

McDermott has to be aggressive and at all times. Keeping the game close should not be in the coach’s thoughts during this matchup, because even a 24-0 lead isn’t safe against Mahomes and company.

The Buffalo Bills may not yet know how to beat this Kansas City team, but they now know that they aren’t going to do it settling for field goals on the other side of the 50 yard line. Touchdowns are what Buffalo will have to score on their possessions no matter how many points they find themselves leading by.
