Duke Williams’ time with the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills signed Duke Williams in the 2019 offseason after he put together two impressive seasons in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos. He joined the Bills at a time that they were rebuilding the wide receiver position.

In 2018, the team’s leading receivers were players like Zay Jones and Robert Foster, and that offseason Brandon Beane knew he had to add talent. He did that by adding John Brown and Cole Beasley which was the start of what the passing attack has become.

For Duke Williams, he showed at times he could be a contributor for this offense, like catching the game-winning touchdown in 2019 against the Tennessee Titans or going over 100 receiving yards in the regular season finale against the New York Jets.

He also was the most heavily targeted wide receiver in the Bills Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans.

However, this would be the final opportunity for Duke Williams as the Buffalo Bills continued to rebuild the wide receiver position and the additions of Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis left little room for Duke Williams and he spent all of last season on the practice squad.

If Duke Williams had joined the Bills one year prior when the offense comprised of Foster and Jones, he likely would have been able to establish himself more on the depth chart but as the talent improved, those opportunities were fewer and more far between.
