The linebackers have been a pleasant surprise on the defensive side of the ball, specifically Andre Smith and Joe Giles-Harris. Both of these players were fighting for roster spots and have done enough these first two preseason games to remain in the discussion.

When considering the Bills have nine linebackers on the roster and are likely to only keep five, maybe six, on the 53-man roster this is another position that the team will have to make some tough decisions at.

One player who is unlikely to factor into that decision is Marquel Lee. The Bills signed Lee as a free agent this offseason as a player who had starting experience from his time with the Raiders. However, he has struggled with injuries at times during his career and missed the entire 2020 season after being waived due to a failed physical.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Marquel Lee get signed shortly after if the Buffalo Bills were to release him, but with the other linebackers, the team has (combined with the play of Andre Smith and Joe Giles-Harris) this is likely one player who is released in this next round of cuts.
