Offensive Guard

The only position on the offensive side of the ball where players are competing for a starting job is at offensive guard. The Buffalo Bills are essentially set with all their starters on offense except for one big question mark.

According to the depth chart just released on the Bills website, Jon Feliciano is the starting left guard and Cody Ford is the starting right guard. This is interesting because it is the opposite side that both players played in last season. However, just because these two players are listed does not mean they have won their jobs. Ike Boettger showed promise last season in his seven starts where he filled in for Cody Ford after he went down with an injury and is listed behind Cody Ford.

Sort of a surprise on the depth chart was the free-agent signing Jamil Douglas being named behind Feliciano at left guard. Add in Forrest Lamp and seventh-round draft pick Jack Anderson and the Buffalo Bills have quite a bit of options at guard. Buffalo has made it known that they want more consistency in the run game and that part of that starts with the offensive line. Against the lines watch the guard play and how well they open up holes for Buffalo’s backs.

The Buffalo Bills essentially know what they have in Feliciano and Boettger from their play last year. However, players such as Cody Ford, Jamil Douglas, and Forrest Lamp all have history starting in the NFL with up and down results. If any of those players can put together some really solid play in the preseason then they have the inside track to a starting guard job.
