Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary

If you surveyed Buffalo Bills fans on who they think has the most to prove not just in training camp, but in all of 2021, there is a good chance they say Devin Singletary. During Singletary’s rookie season in 2019, he was better than the Bills could have hoped he would be.

In 12 games, Singletary rushed for 775 yards and two scores. He averaged a solid 5.1 yards per carry on 151 attempts; had he played 16 games at that pace, he would have surpassed a thousand yards.

He also added 194 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns to his 2019 rushing totals.

Singletary’s production sharply declined in 2020. Although he split carries with Zack Moss, Singletary rushed for just 687 yards and two touchdowns in 2020. He also accumulated 269 receiving yards on 38 catches.

Singletary’s yards per rush attempt went from 5.1 in 2019 to 4.4 in 2020. He had roughly the same workload in 2020 as he did in 2019, carrying the ball just five more times than he did the previous season.

Singletary will have some new competition in 2021. The Bills signed Matt Breida in the offseason in hopes that he can bring the big play threat that Singletary and Moss lack.

In order to maintain his spot as the starting running back in Buffalo, Devin Singletary will need to prove that he is the best running back on the roster in 2021.
