Defensive End – Will the rookies push the veterans?

The defensive end position could look very different from a season ago for the Buffalo Bills. The team drafted Gregory Rousseau and Carlos Basham Jr. with their first two picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. The hope is that they can make an impact in their first year and with A.J. Epenesa off to a great start this offseason, the veterans at the position could be pushed for snaps this year.

Those two veterans are Jerry Hughes, who has been with the Buffalo Bills the longest of any player on the roster, and Mario Addison, who joined the team last year but the coaching staff knows well from their time with the Carolina Panthers.

The Bills do tend to rotate their defensive linemen frequently during the course of the game. Last year, Hughes and Addison led the team in snaps at the position but only played 59% and 57% of the defensive snaps respectively. The question is what might that rotation look like this year and if the rookies, along with Epenesa, can have a good week at minicamp it will give them momentum going into training camp and preseason to potentially earn more snaps this coming season.
