Buffalo Bills fantasy outlook: Devin Singletary

Last year’s finish

Devin Singletary’s lack of production was the result of an aggressive passing offense that ended being mostly how Buffalo moved the ball last season. According to fantasyfootballers.org, Singletary ranked as the 39th running back in yards per game and RB25. That’s basically a low-end RB2/ FLEX play.

Projection

Not to mention that the offensive line had its issues in the running game as well. We’ll see if the draft and free agency has helped the OL become better. This will be a factor in Singletary’s fantasy impact.

I can see him going for roughly 720 yards for his projected stats, and 2 touchdowns just like last year on the ground. I expect his receiving stats to be pretty similar as well.

So a slight improvement from last year on the rushing yards, but his touchdown scoring doesn’t change. He’s only had four rushing touchdowns in two seasons. Not to mention five career fumbles since he came into the league. This is a wait-and-see with Singletary and his role in the offense

2020 Average draft position

Singletary was around the 54th pick in both MFL and Fantrax drafts. If you’re playing in an 8-team league, that’s pretty much close to the 7th round, plus or minus your amount of team. This is in no way someone you should trade up for (if your draft allows that) or someone you should necessarily go out of your way to get.

Singletary may be a great value pick if you find him lower in the draft.

Final verdict: Avoid if possible

Singletary is still very young, only his second year in the league. He showed flashes last year behind a maladapted running game. The cause for that is up for debate. Yet he still hasn’t proven himself to be reliable as he only averaged 42.9 ypg last season. The closer the team gets to the goal line, the less they go to Singletary. Singletary only had 5 attempts from the 5-yard line or closer.

The result? 5 attempts, 0 yards, 1 TD. Until he shows you something great, then don’t rely on him to carry you to a win.
