Round 6 – Pick 181 overall

Original Selection: Jaquan Johnson

Re-Draft Selection: Rashad Fenton

At the time of the draft in 2019, many draft analysts viewed Jaquan Johnson as a late round steal by the Bills. Two years into his tenure with the Bills, he hasn’t seen many defensive snaps at safety, but rather a lot of solid contributions to the special teams unit.

When looking at who the Bills should hypothetically re-draft at 181st overall, it’s tough to completely rule out Johnson without being able to assess his impact as a safety on this defense. The Bills did a great job this year in punt and kick return coverage and part of that success can be linked to Johnson.

While it’s tough to hold Johnson’s lack of defensive snaps against him, it’s just as difficult to pass up on someone who has had solid production with meaningful defensive snaps. The player I’m thinking of is Rashad Fenton who wasn’t selected until the 201st pick overall in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Chiefs.

Although Fenton didn’t play a ton of snaps his rookie year, when he did he played well and he had a great season this past year. In his two seasons with the Chiefs, he has 50 total tackles, 2 interceptions, and 11 passes defended. While Fenton may not be the ideal cornerback 2 the Bills need, there is nothing wrong with quality depth and that is why he is my pick for the Bills at 181st overall in this re-draft.
