Stefon Diggs vs. Richard Sherman

This is not a matchup that will happen during the entire game but when these two players are lined up across from each other, it will be must-watch television. For the Buffalo Bills, Stefon Diggs is coming off his lowest yardage total in a game this season with only 39 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers.

However, he was still heavily involved with seven receptions and nine targets. This past week was likely an anomaly and if he continues to get these types of targets he will have bigger games, even going up against cornerbacks like Richard Sherman.

The reason that this matchup won’t be every play is that even though Richard Sherman is their best corner, the 49ers don’t use Sherman to shadow the opposing team’s best wide receiver. This creates an opportunity for the coaching staff to potentially move Diggs away from Sherman to create winnable matchups. Even though the competitive nature of the Bills wide receiver would draw him to the challenge of going up against Sherman.

The last time these two were on the same field was in the playoffs last season as the 49ers went on to win 27-10 over the Vikings. The lone touchdown scored by Minnesota was a 41-yard touchdown reception by Stefon Diggs, however, it wasn’t against Richard Sherman.

It likely won’t happen often on Monday night but the matchup between Stefon Diggs and Richard Sherman is going to a pivotal one in this game between the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers.
