Extend Matt Milano

The Buffalo Bills had two foundational players entering the final year of their contracts this coming season. Earlier this month, the Bills made sure that left tackle Dion Dawkins won’t be leaving Western New York anytime soon as he signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension. The new deal will keep him with the Buffalo Bills through the 2024 season.

However, the other key player is on the defensive side of the ball and that is outside linebacker, Matt Milano. The Bills selected Milano in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, which was Sean McDermott’s first as head coach. After his rookie season, Milano has been the team’s starter and had a breakout year last season with over 100 total tackles.

One of the reasons Milano is so important because he is so athletic for his position, combined with Tremaine Edmunds, allows the Buffalo Bills to use the nickel defense more and not lose any coverage from the linebacker position.

The question is what will it cost to keep Milano and did his price tag go up with the recent deal Zach Cunningham signed with the Houston Texans. He signed a four-year deal worth $58 million over the past week.

The Buffalo Bills would be smart to get a deal done now so they know their core group of players will be with the team for at least the next two seasons.
