Trent Murphy

It is certainly a little surprising that Trent Murphy is still on the roster at this point. The Buffalo Bills added Murphy prior to the 2018 season with a three-year deal. The first two years were rather lackluster and if the Bills were to release him, he would save the team over $8 million on the salary cap.

It still remains where Murphy fits within this defense because the Buffalo Bills did add Mario Addison in free agency and drafted A.J. Epenesa in the second round of the NFL Draft. Murphy was a starter last year, starting all 16 games and played 65% of the defensive snaps, but likely becomes a backup with the moves made this offseason.

It is going to be important for Murphy to prove that he can contribute at the salary he is expected to make this coming season. If he struggles, the cap savings could be more valuable for the Buffalo Bills next offseason.
