Two players opt out of the 2020 season, one starter considered it

Another change this season is that players have the option to opt-out of the 2020 season. The Buffalo Bills had two players elect to opt out in Star Lotulelei and E.J. Gaines.

The biggest name was obviously Lotulelei, who was the team’s starting defensive tackle, but Gaines had a chance to compete for the starting job. Both players were expected to have roles on this team this coming year.

The biggest news around the opt-out was certainly when Tre’Davious White said he was undecided on Wednesday. He had until Thursday at 4PM to decide whether or not he would opt out and he ultimately decided to play.

Buffalo Bills sign two free agents to replace Lotulelei and Gaines

The Bills front office was proactive and brought in two players shortly after they found out Lotulelei and Gaines had opted out. They signed defensive tackle Niles Scott and cornerback Akeem King.

Scott, an undrafted free agent in 2018, has bounced around a bit by spending time with three franchises over the past two years. He has a bit of an uphill battle if he hopes to make the roster due to the depth at defensive tackle.

As for Akeem King, he is an intriguing addition as he has tremendous size for a cornerback and could become the “big nickel” the team was looking for this offseason.
