Will an undrafted rookie make the 53-man roster?

One of the big questions for the Buffalo Bills heading into the NFL Draft was if they would draft a big safety to play the Buffalo nickel in their defense. The consensus pick seemed to be Kyle Dugger, however he went earlier in the second round to the New England Patriots.

While the team didn’t draft any safeties, they did add two after the draft as undrafted free agents in Josh Thomas out of Appalachian State and Garrett Taylor out of Penn State. Both safeties fit the mold of big bodied safeties as both stand at 6’1″ and around 205 pounds.

While neither are likely to step into a starting role at safety they could be competing for that Buffalo nickel role with Siran Neal, who played this position for the Buffalo Bills last year. If this was a normal offseason, that included OTAs and minicamps, their chances probably would be better.

However, considering both rookies have had no on-field practice time and won’t have a chance to perform in preseason, these two have to be considered long shots.
