Can Harrison Phillips earn starting job?

Right now the other starting defensive tackle for the Bills is veteran Star Lotulelei, however this is far from being a lock. The team did restructure his contract this offseason and he is almost guaranteed to be on the roster but he is going to face some serious competition for that job.

One player that is going to push him is Harrison Phillips. The former third round pick was off to a great start last year and was quickly taking snaps from Lotulelei. In Week 3, the game that Phillips suffered a torn ACL, he actually played five more snaps than Lotulelei even though he missed part of the game.

The biggest question for Harrison Phillips is how he has recovered from the ACL injury. If he is close to fully recovered, it wouldn’t be surprising in all to see him open the season as the starter. The issue is that without any preseason games, the Buffalo Bills may be a little more cautious with him and ease him back. However, barring any setbacks, Phillips should become the starter at some point in the year.
