Tyler Kroft

Tyler Kroft signed with the Buffalo Bills during the 2019 free agency period. At the time of his signing, it was assumed that Kroft was going to be the top tight end for the Bills and that his veteran presence would provide production in both run blocking as well as pass catching.

Unfortunately for both the Bills and Kroft, that prediction has yet to come true.  Part of that was not all Kroft’s fault though.

The tight end suffered a broken foot during the team’s OTA’s in May of 2019 which caused him to miss the start of the 2019 season and then an ankle injury costed him a few more weeks. He saw action in 11 games but only started in three. He lost out on playing time to rookie Dawson Knox, who proved he could handle the starting duties of an NFL tight end.

Kroft ended up with just six receptions for 71 yards and one touchdown in 2019, far from what was expected of him when he signed with the Bills.

A preseason could have really worked in Kroft’s favor in 2020. He could have used the live reps to re-accumulate himself to the speed of NFL football. He also could have used it to re-claim his starting position and assert himself as the top tight end for the Buffalo Bills.

For now he’ll have to settle for training camp. If Tyler Kroft wants to prove he still has some productive football left in him, now is the time.
