Acquire a playmaker

While the Bills should continue to develop their younger players and add to that talent with another rookie receiver, the team should explore the free agency and trade markets to add a proven playmaker to bring experience and credibility to their receiving corps.

One player that has been tied to the Bills is free-agent-to-be Tyrell Williams of the Los Angeles (you’ll always be San Diego to me) Chargers. Williams fits the bill as to what Buffalo needs in a receiver. He stands 6-foot-5 and can not only go over a defender, but get behind them as well.

Williams has a very good catch radius, which pairs well with someone like Josh Allen with accuracy issues but his strong arm also matches Williams’ deep ball and big-play ability. With the team’s cap space, it could be easy to entice Williams to come to Buffalo to make big money and be the team’s number one receiver.

If the Bills decide to go the trade route, there is one big name they could target. A.J. Green is coming off another injury that ended his season and is going into the last season of his current deal. Cincinnati appears to be on their way to a rebuild as they have finally decided to move in a different direction at head coach and that could mean clearing out players that are older or don’t fit their scheme.

Green is 30 years old and is most likely heading toward a decline. Like Williams, Green has outstanding size at 6-foot-4 and he has been a big play receiver for the entirety of his career. Adding Green for a third or fourth-round pick would be an ideal scenario and it would be low-risk. Providing Allen with a receiver of Green’s caliber, despite his age, could go a long way for his development.

If it so happens the Bills swing and miss on either Williams or Green, free agents like Donte Moncrief, Golden Tate, Geronimo Allison or Randall Cobb could be reasonable options at the position. If the Bills would like to spend low on a potentially big reward prospect, Kevin White would be a good idea.

White was the No. 7 overall pick of the Chicago Bears in 2015 and has struggled to stay on the field throughout his career. With immense talent and size, White has all the tools to be a dominant player, but his health has robbed him of a career up to this point. Taking a flyer on White is almost no risk but could be a major reward.
