Fantasy Start/Sit Week 3: WR Jordan Matthews
By Connor Price
The Buffalo Bills passing attack has been non-existent as of late, and Jordan Matthews has done nothing to help the cause. He faces an up-hill battle against the Denver Broncos this week.
Jordan Matthews didn’t even show up to play against the New York Jets. There was a lot of hype built up around the former Philadelphia Eagles’ receiver following the trade that sent away Ronald Darby. Ronald Darby had a tragic injury for the Eagles, and if you asked me whether Matthews was hurt or not for the Bills, a casual fan probably wouldn’t have known.
All statistics and fantasy projections per ESPN standard scoring leagues.
Here is how Jordan Matthews has performed in recent weeks:
- Week 1 vs. New York Jets
- 2 receptions
- 61 yards
- 0 touchdowns
- 6.1 fantasy points
- Week 2 @ Carolina Panthers
- 3 receptions
- 30 yards
- 0touchdows
- 3 fantasy points
Everyone knows the offense is centered around LeSean McCoy, and the Carolina Panthers figured that out quickly. They committed to stopping Shady McCoy, and it effectively shut down the Buffalo Bills’ offense. Tyrod Taylor and the Bills’ offense will need a pass catcher to step up in order to take the pressure off of the run game that made them their money last season.
Here is how the Denver Broncos have fared against opposing wide receivers in recent weeks:
- Week 1 vs. LAC (Keenan Allen/Tyrell Wiliams)
- 13 receptions
- 132 yards
- 2 touchdowns
- 25.2 fantasy points
- Week 2 vs. Dallas Cowboys (Dez Bryant/ Terrence Williams)
- 16 receptions
- 127 yards
- 1 touchdown
- 18.7 fantasy points
There is no question that the Denver Broncos adjusted their defense and stepped up their game all-around in week 2. It is likely that the team will continue to build on this momentum, and give the Buffalo Bills a tough time this Sunday.
Here is Jordan Matthews projected stat line for week 3:
3.7 receptions – 44.6 yards – 0.2 touchdowns – 5.7 fantasy points
It is likely that there are better options at wide receiver on your league’s waiver wire than starting Jordan Matthews. The Bills’ receiver is slotted behind pass-catchers such as Kenny Stills and Mike Wallace.
It is looking like another one of those weeks where the only Buffalo Bills’ player worth starting is LeSean McCoy. I’m sure we are all used to this by now and may be the norm for a while considering Buffalo’s next few opponents include the Falcons and the Bengals.
