The Bills coaching staff has been all but completed, and many fans weren’t super happy with some of the decisions. Besides defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, a majority of the staff doesn’t have a ton of experience in the NFL. Of the members that do, there doesn’t come an incredible history of success.

One of the members that has minimal professional experience is the new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who’s only former NFL experience was as a quality controls coach.

Before you say that this doesn’t make sense because he isn’t a big name remember that Hackett was the one calling plays in Syracuse, not Doug Marrone. So, therefore, if you are in favor of the Marrone offense Hackett is the guy that really makes the most sense.

Marrone may have been the head coach, but it was Hackett’s offense that helped lead the Orange to victory and utilize quarterback Ryan Nassib. He’s build quite the reputation in his time at Syracuse and obviously is already familiar with Marrone’s desired systems.

So if you question some of the other hires, I don’t really blame you. Some are a bit shaky. However, don’t get too down on Hackett until you can see what he can do. Just like with Marrone, you should keep an open mind.

The Buffalo Orange streak continues. According to reports Doug Marrone is set to make Nathaniel Hackett the first member of his Buffalo Bills coaching staff. Hackett will serve as the team’s offensive coordinator, the same position he held on Marrone’s staff with Syracuse.

Hackett has some NFL coaching experience, but its minimal at best. This won’t be his first stint in Buffalo, as he was the team’s offensive quality control coach on Dick Jauron’s staff. He also served in the same position for two years in Tampa Bay.

Hackett has been the offensive coordinator for the Orange for the past two seasons after originally joining the team as the quarterbacks and tight end coach. He’s served as Marrone’s play-caller the past two seasons, a job he will likely continue as Marrone said at his press conference that he himself would not be calling plays.

Hackett is another young mind to join the team at only 33 years of age. Just like Marrone, this will be his first chance to have a big role with an NFL franchise. With another member of the Syracuse Orange joining the team, it will be interesting to see if Marrone brings any more familiar faces onto his coaching staff.
