Alex Marvez of Fox Sports is reporting that the Bills have re-signed cornerback Leodis McKelvin to a four year, 20 million dollar contact today. It’s a lot of money for the cornerback who has developed into one of the best returners in the NFL.

It had been reported earlier this week that the Bills and McKelvin were in contract talks. It seems that they have turned out well. With the big contact, it will be interesting to see if the Bills will play him at cornerback a bit more than they did last season.

With the McKelvin signing it is starting to seem Like Andy Levitre will be heading to free agency. This move could also stop the Bills from going after free agent cornerbacks this year as well.

Here is Marvez’s tweet on the subject.

The #Bills have re-signed CB/returner Leodis McKelvin to a four-year, $20M contract. Story being posted ASAP at @foxsports.com

If you had asked me at the start of the season if I thought the Bills should bring Leodis McKelvin back, I probably would have laughed. However, he established himself as one of the best return men in the league and really does make the team better.

Of course, none of this holds water when it comes to cornerback play. McKelvin still is just as mediocre on defense as he has been since joining the Bills. But his role isn’t there, and he wasn’t forced to play solid defensive minutes until the team was hit by the injury bug.

McKelvin did explode in the return position, totaling over 500 yards on kick returns and over 400 in punts along with two touchdowns. These numbers far exceed his previous career highs, giving new life to McKelvin in Buffalo. When you factor in the Bills depth in the return game (woo, Brad Smith is still terrible at these…) it makes it even more likely that he will be back in the blue, red, and white.

Should McKelvin come back? What do you think? Vote in the poll below to voice your opinion!
