It started out as a defensive game. Neither team could really move the ball well. The Rams, in fact, did not move the ball into the Bills territory for the entire game. The defensive looked decent as Mario Williams and company were able to get pressure on Sam Bradford for most of the first half. Steven Jackson was held in check for most of the time as well. There was just something that seemed to play out as it always does for the Bills. The defense plays well and almost comes away with a defensive TD by Gilmore after a deflected pass, but Kyle Moore has to block someone in the back and negate the penalty and in turn the Bills end up punting even though they started in decent field position. The defense held the game in check and kept it close. The Defensive Line was able to get pressure and Mario Williams is the first Bill, since Aaron Schobel, to record more than 10 sacks in a season. He is also the first Bill, since Aaron Schobel to have back to back games with a forced fumble. There is definite improvement and from what Gailey said back in training camp, this is a good thing. When there is improvement there is a step in the right direction. The only difficult part to swallow is that the defense did allow the winning drive to take place. The other difficult part is that football can’t be won by only playing defense, and this seems to be a major problem for the Bills. Overall I give the Bills defense a C+. Things could have been better, but they didn’t play horrible.
