Tim Tebow was released only a couple of days after the NY Jets draft rookie Geno Smith in the early 2nd round.  With 6 quarterbacks on their roster at that time, to include David Garrard, Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith, the likelihood that the Jets were even going to consider keeping him around was almost a non-factor at this point.  Just about everyone knew Tebow would be Tebowned from the Jets after the draft but no one knew when.  We now do.

The question is now, where will he land, if at all, and are the Buffalo Bills a good fit for Tebow and his “talent”?

I personally don’t think Tebow is a fit in Buffalo and really only think the Jets brought him in as a media mark up and in the end it really just caused trouble.  With most teams having quarterback situations just about filled and competitions beginning to start in May with OTAs.

Tebow will have to hope and pray that a team is looking for his read-option expertise and use him in another sense, like a Kordell Stewart or a Brad Smith, which I think is and was lost on the Bills and never could understand the process behind the Wildcat.  I thought it was a waste of a spot on the roster as well as in the playbook.

Possible teams of where Tebow could land based on Mark Slesser, from NFL.com do not include the Bills at this point, and I hope it never does.  The fit with Tebow and the Buffalo Bills is to a point of a toddler trying to fit a round peg into a square hole.

Slesser has named 8 teams that could be possible landing spots for this quarterback and the Patriots were first on his list.  Slesser went on to say…

As coach Bill Belichick watched the Jets muddle around with Tebow last season, he went on record in October to say, “Of course he’s a valuable guy.” Belichick adores players from the University of Florida and might embrace the chance to use Tebow creatively on offense at a position other than quarterback. Turning Jets trash into Patriots treasure is a motivator.

Other teams that Slesser looked at for Tebow were the Chargers, Seahawks, Redskins, Bears, Raiders, Browns, and Jags.  He also stated that the Jags were the logical choice for Tebow but General Manager David Caldwell said…

“I can’t imagine a scenario where (Tebow) would be a Jacksonville Jaguar.” Asked if that might change if Tebow were released, Caldwell was firm: “Even if he’s released.”

Will he find a place?  Yes, Tebow will have employment next season, whether it is in the NFL or the CFL, someone will find a use for him, and most likely it will be in the same context as the Jets used him last year.  Controversial and minimal.

So how well did the Buffalo Bills do in the draft this year?

Personally, I thought that they had one of there better draft weekends in a long time.  As I mentioned before, I didn’t for one pick ask “Why did we get that guy and not another position”?  I would have liked to see a Guard picked up and they did as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse.  So really every need was addressed and the picks were thought out and a need in every way.  We got explosiveness at WR and we got a Solid QB.  the LB and DB needs were addressed as well as the TE.

I am not the only one that thinks this way either. Bucky Brooks, Analyst, NFL.com and NFL Network ran his thoughts on who was a winner and who was a loser in this years draft.  As for the AFC East, the Buffalo Bills were the only ones mentioned in the “Nailed it” category, where the Dolphins were in the “Nothing flashy, but solid” category and the Jets were in the “only time will tell” category.  The Pats were no where to be found in his breakdown.  Bucky Brooks broke down the Buffalo Bills draft as;

GM Buddy Nix made the most surprising move of Thursday night, with the Bills dropping from pick No. 8 to 16 and grabbing EJ Manuel as the team’s new franchise quarterback. While many analysts believe Manuel is not the top quarterback in the class, his blue-chip physical traits (size, athleticism and arm talent) and an underrated football mind make him an intriguing prospect to build around. Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin add more explosiveness to the receiving corps. Kiko Alonso is a thumper who brings much-needed toughness and physicality to the middle of Buffalo’s defense. Don’t sleep on the Duke Williams pick, either; he is an active roamer in the back end with the grit and nastiness to be an enforcer between the hashes.

I have to agree with him on all angles and again will reiterate that this has been a draft where the grade for the Bills is one that was above a C+, in my eyes and that hasn’t happen in recent drafts.
