Buffalo Bills Quarterback Race Heating Up

The Buffalo Bills have not had a solid, reliable quarterback since the days of Jim Kelly.  The Buffalo Bills have certainly tried to bring in the next face of the franchise as far as quarterback is concerned, but have been on the losing side for a long time.

The situation is still no different, at least as far as the process is concerned.  The Buffalo Bills drafted a 1st round quarterback in EJ Manuel, back in 2013, and who has yet to play an entire season, due to injuries in his rookie season and also coaches digression in his second season.  We have seen what Manuel can bring to the table and while there is still a possibility and he does have his followers, the risk/reward aspect that Manuel brings to the table is not very high.

With EJ Manuel, the Buffalo Bills have brought in 3 other quarterbacks.  The safe choice veteran in Matt Cassel, who has proven he can play ball but is also has some injury concerns.  Matt Cassel is the safe choice and the choice by many to provide this team with some stability.  I don’t disagree but I think that there is a bigger risk reward with another option at quarterback.

Tyrod Taylor is the wild card of the group.  Brought in as a free agent, playing behind Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens, Taylor is not new to the league but is new to getting a shot at a starting position.  Still raw in the aspect that he has not had a lot of playing time in the league, there is an excitement of the unknown with him.  He is Rex Ryan’s favorite, and by this I mean, he liked him when in New York.  Taylor brings a lot to the table and in some areas similar to that of Manuel, but has the aspect of unknown that raises his stake just a bit more than the other two quarterbacks.

"Ryan might be right that Taylor is the fastest quarterback in the NFL: Among all active quarterbacks, the only one who ran a faster 40-yard dash at the Combine than Taylor’s 4.51 was Robert Griffin III, and Griffin doesn’t look as fast now as he did before the knee injury at the end of his rookie year. Taylor is so impressive with the ball in his hands that at times when he was Joe Flacco’s backup in Baltimore, the Ravens let Taylor take snaps in the Wildcat formation.– Suntimes.com"

The Buffalo Bills also have quarterback Matt Simms on the roster, but he is more of a roster space filler at this point.  Familiar with Rex Ryan when he was in New York, but the only way he makes this roster is if Matt Cassel blows out a tire.
