Buffalo Bills Rumors: Bilal Powell To Reunite With Rex Ryan

facebooktwitterreddit

The Buffalo Bills have made a splash with trading Kiko Alonso for LeSean McCoy in a rare player for player swap.  The trade brings over one of the best backs in the league and sends a dispensable defensive player in Kiko Alonso.  The Buffalo Bills did not see Kiko Alonso at all last year due to his torn ACL he suffered about a year ago.  The Buffalo Bills have not really lost anyone significant on the defensive side of the ball.

What might be happening is that the Buffalo Bills may be losing someone that has been the face of the franchise on the offensive side of the ball for some time now.

Bilal Powell, running back for the New York Jets, is rumored to be interested in joining the Buffalo Bills and reunited with Rex Ryan.

Bilal Powell has been a part of the NEw York Jets for the past 4 seasons with 2013 being his best season with the Jets rushing for over 600 yards on 176 attempts and 1 touchdown.  As for last year, Bilal Powell was only seen on the field for a total of 33 attempts and 141 yards with 1 touchdown.

If Bilal Powell comes to the Buffalo Bills and signs, the Bills will have a very crowded backfield with 5 backs.  Who would be the odd man out? Unfortunately, with rumors circulating that Fred Jackson might be on his way out from a Bills uniform, this may make room for the free agent running back, but still to have 4 backs on a roster with LeSean McCoy as your feature back it is still a bit crowded.

Fred Jackson may not be the only casualty if Powell comes over and signs.  I believe that if Bilal Powell does sign with the Buffalo Bills that Fred Jackson is going to be on his way out no matter what, and Bryce Brown may also be seeing the door.  Anthony Dixon is already familiar with the offense that Greg Roman brings to town and you are obviously not getting rid of McCoy.

If it goes to training camp and the Bills keep all 5 guys on to compete, your three running backs that come out of the mix will be LeSean McCoy, Anthony Dixon, and fighting for his life to see a winning squad, Fred Jackson will be with this team for one more year.  Unfortunately, I don’t see Fred Jackson making it that far in the offseason on this team.

Best of luck Fred.
