Super Bowl Recipes: Stromboli

facebooktwitterreddit

Here we go.  Super Bowl is tomorrow.  The game that every NFL team shoots to be in and what every fan looks forward to at the end of the season.  It doesn’t matter if your team is in it or not, but it certainly does help, Super Bowl is another day where you just have to accept that fact that you will most likely be watching a team rather than yours, having fun with friends and family, enjoying the new commercials, and putting your diet on the side for the weekend.

  • Let’s face it, Super Bowl weekend is like Thanksgiving, in a way, you are going to be gaining some weight with all the options of food that will be available at everyone’s parties.  So why not make it good food.

Here is a recipe that We have at everyone of our Super Bowl parties. Here is a recipe for Stromboli.

This is a recipe that I have made more than once and is a fan favorite. This is not just a Super Bowl, but any time you are having a gathering or heading to a get together, a Stromboli will be a hit.  You can make a Stromboli with any type of flavor, just change the insides to whatever is your preference.  I prefer the recipe below, straight salami and peppers.

First the key to Stromboli is the dough.  You can get frozen dough but I prefer to make my own.  Here is my recipe below.

    Dough:

    3.5 – 4 cups Flour

    1 cup warm water

    1 T bread yeast

    2 t sugar

    1 t salt

    oil (optional)

Take the water and yeast and combine and let sit for 5 minutes until yeast has been activated.  Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until dough ball is elastic and easily rolled.  If it is sticky add more flour until it is workable.

Stretch and roll out the dough until it is about 2 feet long and a foot and a half wide, but the key is to have the thickness of the dough at a 1/4 of an inch so the size could be different, which is fine, it is the thickness that you are going for.

    Stromboli:

For the Stromboli really any ingredient can be added to your liking, but the traditional Stromboli is Salami, Mozzarella Cheese, Roasted Peppers, and Banana Peppers.

You will need about 2 pounds of salami about 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, 1 14 oz jar of roasted red peppers and a 14 oz jar of banana peppers.  You will first put down the salami in overlapping form until the entire dough is covered leaving about 1/2 inch as a boarder.  Next you will put a layer of cheese over the salami.  Drain the peppers and spread out on top of the cheese.

After the ingredients are layered, you are ready to wrap.  Start by rolling one long edge inward and after rolling fold the sides in like a burrito.  You will continue this process until it completely rolled into a log shape.

Place the Stromboli on a baking sheet and back for 30-45 minutes at 350.  To get a golden brown crust, add a egg wash towards the end of cooking.
