I have followed the Buffalo Bills since I was a baby, I would say that I have followed the team before I was born. It was instilled in me while I was inside my mother’s womb. I have caught a football from the hand of Jack Kemp and had Bruce Smith literally knock me down and walk over me in the tunnel to the stadium. Not much in life would make me happier than seeing the team hoist the Lombardi trophy. In 2014, I would be content with seeing the team in a playoff game…but I have to be honest with myself.
Honesty is a tough thing when it comes to football. We all want to believe that somehow adversity will just step to the side and our team will be fantastic no matter how big the problem seems. I want this too! It just isn’t going to happen in 2014.
We are just beginning training camp and this team is in worse shape than it was last season. Byrd is gone, Alonso is out for the year, and who knows what is going to happen with Dareus. The defense has too many holes to fill.
The offense, on the other hand, should be taking full advantage of this, but other than Sammy Watkins and Bryce Brown, they are not. Watkins looks to be the real deal. Some of his moves and catches are incredible and McKelvin is still not sure what has shown up in practice. Brown is just good and fast. I hope to see a lot of him in the upcoming season. Besides these two, the offense has been unimpressive.
Jeff Tuel is looking to become the backup quarterback and don’t be fooled, the backup quarterback will become the starter sometime this season. Remember folks, this man won a total of 4 games in college.
The offensive line is desperate for Cordy Glenn to be healthy. The tight end position needs a serious upgrade. Some other receivers need to show up around Watkins.
I know it is early in training camp, but put aside the emotions for a second and I think we can say that this team is not going to win a lot of games this season. I want to watch a playoff game featuring the Buffalo Bills!!! I may have to wait a few more years.
