Anthony Dixon is a big bruising type of player in the backfield who is extremely versatile on offense. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 231 pounds Dixon will be an excellent wrecking ball at the goal line situations. He signed a three year, three and a half million dollar contract and came east leaving the powerhouse San Francisco 49ers in free agency. Over the course of four seasons, his numbers got progressively worse, this is likely due to the combination of the 49ers having an absurdly deep running back depth and the team could just draft a replacement for him that would be cheaper than a million per season with the number of picks they had in the past two seasons.
Also, Anthony Dixon will become the team’s fullback that will be an excellent hybrid of plowing holes for the other running backs on the team and might catch a ball or two in the air. Finally, he will be used like former Buffalo Bills fullback Corey McIntyre as the special teams ace who can get down to the ball quickly after kicks and punts thus minimizing big run backs by putting returners in their place on the ground early and forcefully.
Having a diverse group of backs behind a quarterback is a tremendous asset and the Bills have that between speed freaks like C.J. Spiller and Bryce Brown. They also have a true downhill runner like Fred Jackson or Anthony Dixon’s sheer power will make it a challenge to bring him down. These different skills sets of these four guys have will make opposing teams’ defenses consider their formations wisely or they will get beat.
All and all, Anthony Dixon will be one of the under the radar signings in the NFL in 2014, granted he won’t have gaudy stats but serves a vital role on this team. So what do you think of him? Leave a comment below and we can discuss it!
