Sammy Watkins is one of the newest players to the Buffalo Bills by way of the 2014 NFL Draft. Watkins is considered to be the best wide receiver in the draft and was selected in the 4th overall spot. The Bills traded up from the 9th overall spot to nab him giving up their 9th pick this year, 1st overall next year and 4th overall next year as well.
Buffalo brought Watkins in for one reason and one reason only, they needed a weapon to bring in for EJ Manuel. Manuel is coming into his 2nd year with the Bills and the top brass wanted to supply EJ with as many possible weapons and options as possible.
Watkins has won titles in the 200 meters and finished second in 100 meters. Buffalo likes to bring in track stars for their receivers and we saw last year how well that worked out with Goodwin. I like the fact that they go out and grab guys that are great, speedy runners that will make an impact on the field immediately. Watkins also has the ability to return kicks and had a 22.9 return average in college on 60 returns.
NFL.com puts their bottom line on Sammy Watkins
A legitimate No. 1-caliber receiver who stepped onto the field as a true freshman and made an immediate, game-changing impact. Was slowed by injuries as a sophomore, but responded with a strong junior season and capped his career as one of the most impactful receivers in school history. Has rare speed, soft hands and the big-play ability to challenge NFL defensive backs as a rookie.
Great pick for Buffalo with the direction that they are going. They have always said they are a win now team, but have never really made the risky moves. Well, here you go fans. Essentially, 2 first round picks for Watkins.
