Winners/Losers from NFL Draft Day One

The Buffalo Bills have taken the only hope I have during the football season away from me.  For the last ten-plus years the Bills have been so bad, I have gauged the football season on when I started to think about the draft.  It is a good season if I don’t think of the upcoming draft until November, but trading away the 2015 first round selection, the Bills have taken this away from me too.   Doug Whaley got schooled.

The Cleveland Browns look like the belle of the ball.  Not only did they get the best cornerback in the draft, but they got their potential franchise quarterback too!  It gets better. They also added what will undoubtedly be a top 15 pick in the 2015 draft.  Ray Farmer looks like a genius.

Mike Glennon and Sam Bradford slept well last night as both of their teams passed on quarterbacks.  They even  received some help.  Bradford got blocking help and Glennon got arguably the best receiver in the draft.  It is put up or shut up for those two.

St. Louis, Cleveland and Minnesota were the big winners in my book.  Buffalo, New England (not sure what they were thinking in Dominique Easley), and Indianapolis (Trent Richardson is not deserving of any first round pick) are the big losers.

Other observations from last night:

  • I think 31teams are going to be upset in the future that they didn’t get Khalil Mack.
  • I think the Giants did the right thing in taking Odell Beckham Jr.  Eli Manning slept a bit more comfortable last night too.
  • I think Calvin Pryor could be a problem for the Buffalo Bills.
  • I think the Minnesota Vikings are going to be happy with Teddy Bridgewater.

Day two is coming up.  I am sure players such as Derek Carr and Marquise Lee didn’t get much sleep, but they won’t have to wait long.

As for the Buffalo Bills, I hope that Cyrus Kouandjio, Xavier Su’a Filo, or Antonio Richardson are on the menu.  If not offensive line, then maybe tight end??  If the Bills are all-in for 2014, then let’s build the offense for the here and now.

After all, I don’t have much to look forward to in 2015.
