2014 NFl Draft: Buffalo Bills 1st Round Select...

The draft is underway and Jadeveon Clowney is the 1st overall pick. The Buffalo Bills have also made their selection at the 4th pick overall.  There were rumors that the Bills would trade up and  they do make a trade with the Cleveland Browns and move up 5 spots to select Sammy Watkins WR, Clemson with their first pick at the 4th spot overall.

To get the 4th overall pick, the Bills traded this years 9th, and next years 1st and 4th round picks. No Players.

With Watkins coming to Buffalo, they are wasting no time in making this team better and looking to improve from years past and make a viable push to break what seems to be a lifetime but is really only a 14 year playoff drought.  Watkins will bring an explosiveness to this Bills offensive that we have not seen in years.

STRENGTHS: Smooth acceleration and doesn’t take long to get up to full speed. Follows blocks well with controlled burst to weave through defenders – multiple gears to win at every level of the field.

Sharp footwork off the line of scrimmage to beat press and get vertical with his galloping strides. Terrific body control and coordination with smooth hips and joints. Good depth in his routes with quick footwork in/out of his breaks, working the soft spots vs. zone.

Buffalo’s offensive weapons look like this.  Manuel QB

Spiller, Jackson RB

Watkins, Johnson, Williams, Woods, Goodwin, Graham WR

Their is an increase in explosiveness on the Buffalo offense.  Good things to come in Buffalo.

Wow! GREAT MOVE by the Bills to improve their offense and send a message to the AFC East and the rest of the league that Buffalo thinks its’ closer to the playoffs than others think. This guy is EXPLOSIVE, has tremendous upside, and is a beast after the catch! You pit Watkins, Woods, and Marquise Graham on the field, along with CJ Spiller, Fred Jackson, and a very decent tight end in Scott …and you have a nice set of threats around EJ Manuel to do lots of damage with! This guy will, in short order, make Buffalo’s running game – already very good – even better, because of the threat he represents.

Notice I didn’t mention Stevie Johnson; as of a short while ago, his days in Buffalo are now numbered. Watkins is going to get Johnson’s salary money as soon as Buffalo trades or waives him, and the team (esp. the offense) will be better as a result. Watkins’ skill set and speed are a MUCH better match for this team than Stevie; so, why keep him? Trade him away for an OL player, and you get even better!

Great job, Buffalo, and your brain trust at the top! I LOVE it!!!
